The role

Summary

Teamworks is seeking a Data Engineer I to join their Data Platform team, focusing on building and maintaining production data pipelines for athletic and tactical performance data. The role involves working with cutting-edge data infrastructure, participating in lakehouse development, and growing alongside senior engineers in a dynamic sports technology environment.

What you'll do

Data Pipeline Development: Build and maintain production data pipelines that consolidate performance and product data into the lakehouse with robust documentation, testing, and observability
Infrastructure as Code: Contribute to platform code and Terraform-based infrastructure development under senior engineer guidance, applying industry best practices
Data Integration: Collaborate with product engineering and domain experts to design schema conventions and integrate new data sources effectively
System Reliability: Take ownership of built components, including on-call rotations, SLO management, and creating runbooks and post-incident learnings
Reliability Engineering: Proactively identify potential pipeline failure points, implement graceful error handling, and improve overall system reliability

Technical

ProgrammingProficiency in Python with experience writing and deploying production-quality code
Data WarehousingWorking knowledge of SQL and modern data warehouse/lakehouse technologies (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift)
Cloud InfrastructureExposure to AWS and infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform

Education

Academic BackgroundBachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science (preferred)

Experience

Professional ExperienceMinimum 2 years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or related production systems role

PythonProduction-level Python programming with code review and deployment experience
SQLStrong SQL skills for data manipulation and querying
TroubleshootingStrong problem-solving and analytical troubleshooting skills

Nice to have

Data ToolsExperience with Spark, Databricks, Trino, dbt, or Airflow
Lakehouse TechnologiesFamiliarity with Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, or modern data observability tools
AI Development ToolsActive use of AI coding assistants like Claude, Cursor, or Copilot
Sports DataBackground or understanding of sports performance data modeling
