The role

Summary

Teamworks is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the development of a modern lakehouse platform that consolidates and structures complex sports performance and product data. The ideal candidate will define technical architecture, establish data platform standards, and create a robust data ecosystem that supports analytics, ML, and AI initiatives across multiple sports technology products.

What you'll do

Technical Architecture: Define the technical architecture and platform standards for AWS-based lakehouse, including distributed cloud architecture, schema conventions, and multi-tenant isolation
Data Pipeline Development: Lead design and delivery of production pipelines consolidating performance and product data, with complex data modeling for time-series, hierarchical, and multi-source entities
Data Governance: Introduce strategic data governance, ownership, and stewardship to elevate data maturity and establish a foundational data catalog and semantic layer
Platform Documentation: Author and maintain the Data Platform playbook, including reusable patterns, architectural decision records (ADRs), runbooks, and Terraform modules
Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead end-to-end project delivery, coordinating workstreams and effectively communicating status to senior leadership and non-technical partners
Engineering Mentorship: Mentor engineers across different levels, conduct design reviews, manage on-call responsibilities, and shape the platform's strategic roadmap

ProgrammingExpert-level Python for building data pipelines, transformations, and platform tooling
Cloud PlatformsAdvanced AWS cloud architecture experience, including S3, IAM, Glue, EMR/Lambda, and networking
Data PlatformsDeep expertise in lakehouse platforms (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi) and modern processing engines (Spark, Databricks, Trino, Snowflake)
Infrastructure as CodeProficient in Terraform with best practices for implementing cloud architecture designs

Education

DegreeBachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Work Experience10+ years of data engineering experience with proven track record of building and maturing data platforms
LeadershipDemonstrated ability to align leaders, communicate technical decisions, and drive organizational data maturity
