The role

Summary

Platform Engineer II at Teamworks will own day-to-day operations of AWS GovCloud infrastructure supporting elite sports organizations, managing EKS clusters, RDS/Aurora, and IAM configurations. This collaborative role requires 3+ years of platform/DevOps engineering experience with strong Linux, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GitLab CI proficiency to build scalable infrastructure, drive observability improvements using Datadog, and partner with application teams on compliance and stability enhancements.

What you'll do

AWS GovCloud Infrastructure Operations: Own day-to-day operations and maintenance of AWS GovCloud environment including EKS cluster management, EC2 instances, RDS/Aurora databases, ElastiCache caching layers, S3 storage, and IAM permission management. Ensure production systems maintain high availability and performance standards while adhering to FedRAMP and IL4 compliance requirements.
Deployment Coordination and Release Management: Manage deployments of new features and fixes across commercial and GovCloud environments, coordinating with application teams through structured intake processes and ad hoc request handling. Maintain deployment pipelines and ensure smooth rollouts with minimal disruption to platform users and dependent services.
Infrastructure as Code Development: Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules, Helm charts, and CI/CD pipeline templates using GitLab CI that enforce organizational standards for scalability, compliance, observability, and security. Create self-service infrastructure components that enable application teams to deploy reliably without deep platform expertise.
Cross-Cutting Infrastructure Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues spanning networking misconfigurations, IAM permission boundaries, Kubernetes scheduling failures, and inter-service communication problems. Evaluate blast radius and downstream impact of issues before proposing solutions that minimize risk to production systems.
Platform Guidance and Knowledge Sharing: Partner with application teams to translate platform changes and new standards into clear, actionable guidance that reduces friction across the organization. Provide technical mentorship and documentation to help teams adopt platform improvements and follow infrastructure best practices.
Observability and Stability Enhancement: Drive improvements to environment observability and stability using Datadog monitoring and alerting. Implement metrics collection, dashboard creation, and alert tuning to improve system visibility and reduce mean time to detection (MTTD) for production incidents. Participate in on-call rotation with full production ownership and incident response responsibilities.

What we look for

Technical

Kubernetes and Container OrchestrationHands-on expertise with Kubernetes clusters (Amazon EKS preferred) including pod scheduling, resource management, networking, storage provisioning, and troubleshooting. Experience managing containerized workloads, service mesh integration, and Kubernetes API interactions required.
Terraform and Infrastructure as CodeProven proficiency in Terraform for AWS infrastructure provisioning, module development, state management, and refactoring. Ability to design modular, reusable IaC components that enforce consistency across environments and maintain version control discipline.
GitLab CI/CD and Pipeline AutomationStrong experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines including job configuration, pipeline orchestration, artifact management, and integration with deployment tools. Knowledge of continuous integration best practices, automated testing integration, and deployment strategies.
AWS Cloud InfrastructureComprehensive experience with AWS services including EC2 instance management, RDS/Aurora database administration, ElastiCache caching solutions, S3 storage, IAM policy design, and VPC networking. Understanding of AWS-specific patterns and architectural considerations.
Linux System AdministrationStrong proficiency in Linux administration in production environments with particular emphasis on RHEL-based systems (CentOS, Fedora). Include skills in package management, system monitoring, logging, performance tuning, security hardening, and user/permission management.
Observability and MonitoringHands-on experience with Datadog monitoring platform or comparable observability solutions. Ability to design metrics collection, create dashboards, configure alerts, and perform log analysis to support operational visibility and incident response.
