Summary
Airwallex is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Expenses team in San Francisco, building scalable financial technology solutions for expense management. The role requires 6+ years of backend development experience and expertise in modern programming languages, cloud platforms, and RESTful API design to support their global payment infrastructure serving over 200,000 businesses.
What you'll do
Backend Architecture Leadership: Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of backend services, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and secure
Code Excellence: Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, setting the standard for engineering excellence across the team
Technical Leadership: Drive technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews, fostering a culture of high quality engineering
API Development: Design and maintain high-performance REST APIs, adhering to best practices in API design and security
System Reliability: Proactively address system reliability, scalability, and observability, implementing the right monitoring and alerting strategies
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high impact solutions
Mentorship: Mentor and coach other engineers, guiding them on technical and architectural decisions
Strategic Planning: Contribute to technical strategy and long term engineering roadmap

Backend Development6+ years of professional backend software development experience
Computer Science FundamentalsStrong foundation in computer science fundamentals including data structures and algorithms
RESTful APIsProven experience building and scaling RESTful APIs and working with modern backend technologies
Programming LanguagesProficiency with at least one modern programming language (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, etc.)
Cloud PlatformsExperience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

Education
