Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for their Spend Management team in Melbourne, focusing on building backend services for global financial platforms. The role involves designing scalable, secure systems that power credit card and expense management solutions, working at the intersection of backend infrastructure and customer-facing applications.

What you'll do

Backend Service Design: Design and implement scalable, secure backend services for the Cards product, focusing on spend management and accounting systems

Technical Architecture: Contribute to the long-term technical vision and architecture of backend systems, ensuring scalability and performance

End-to-End Feature Delivery: Own complete feature lifecycle from technical design and implementation through to production operation

Code Quality: Write high-quality, testable code with strong emphasis on reliability, maintainability, and engineering best practices

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, infrastructure, and design teams to deliver complex financial technology solutions

Technical Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to other engineers, helping raise the overall engineering standards of the team

What we look for

Technical

Backend DevelopmentHands-on experience designing and building production-grade backend systems and APIs

Programming LanguagesProficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python

System DesignStrong computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems

Cloud InfrastructureExperience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, and container orchestration using Kubernetes

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field

Experience

Professional ExperienceMinimum of 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
