The role

Summary

Benchling is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to manage the Enterprise Lifecycle team, focusing on developing critical systems for regulatory compliance and data integrity in biotechnology R&D. The ideal candidate will lead a team of eight engineers, driving technical strategy and solving complex challenges for enterprise customers in highly regulated scientific environments.

What you'll do

Team Leadership: Recruit, develop, and lead a team of eight software engineers, fostering their growth and professional development
Strategic Planning: Translate organizational strategy into executable quarterly plans with clear metrics and targets
Product Roadmap Development: Define and execute a comprehensive roadmap balancing new product development, quality improvements, and software maintenance
Quality Assurance: Maintain an exceptionally high standard of product quality and technical decision-making
Customer Engagement: Directly engage with enterprise customers to understand their scientific needs and inform product strategy
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product management, design, and other engineering teams to drive organizational improvements

Cloud Application DevelopmentProven experience building cloud-based web applications with front-end and back-end expertise
Engineering Management ToolsProficiency with productivity tools like Jira and observability platforms for logging, metrics, and alerting

Education

DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Management Experience3+ years of engineering management experience
Software Engineering5+ years of software engineering experience, with technical lead experience on multi-quarter, multi-engineer projects
Cross-Functional LeadershipTrack record of working effectively with product, design, sales, and marketing teams
