The role

Summary

Confluent is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Cloud UI Apps team responsible for Kafka UI, Tableflow UI, and Governance UI experiences. This role requires 8+ years of software development experience with 3+ years of management experience, focusing on delivering complex cloud-native data streaming and governance platforms for data engineers and platform operators.

What you'll do

Product Vision Leadership: Own the overall vision and execution for Kafka UI, Tableflow UI, and Governance UI to deliver cohesive user journeys for data engineers and platform operators

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, design, and TPMs to build and drive roadmap for data streaming and governance experiences

Backend Partnership: Partner with backend and platform teams to define clear API contracts, de-risk dependencies, and ensure UI flows remain robust as services evolve

Operational Excellence: Raise the operational bar by instilling strong execution practices including effective retrospectives, clear ownership, and predictable capacity management

Team Leadership: Build, grow, and lead a team of engineers working on cloud UI applications including hiring, coaching, and developing senior technical talent

Technical Architecture: Lean in technically on design and architecture reviews, cross-surface UX patterns, performance decisions, and unblocking delivery challenges

Strategic Execution: Drive execution across multiple concurrent initiatives from feature development to API migrations while maintaining clear priorities and predictable delivery

Stakeholder Management: Influence and align cross-functional partners through clear communication, structured status reporting, and data-informed decision making

Data Streaming PlatformsStrong experience with Kafka, data streaming platforms, or data governance/catalog products including Schema Registry and lineage systems

Large Scale SystemsTechnical expertise in large scale systems engineering or distributed systems with cloud-native services experience

API IntegrationHands-on experience building or integrating with APIs powering search, catalog, permissions/RBAC, governance workflows, or storage systems

Cloud Native ArchitectureExperience with cloud-native application development, microservices, and container orchestration platforms

Frontend TechnologiesUnderstanding of modern frontend frameworks, UI/UX patterns, and complex web application architecture

Education

Bachelor's DegreeBS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience required

Advanced DegreeAdvanced degree in computer science or related discipline is a plus

Software DevelopmentMinimum 8+ years of software development experience with focus on complex, customer-facing cloud experiences

Engineering Management3+ years of engineering management experience leading teams that deliver cloud-native applications

Execution ManagementStrong track record of driving execution across multiple concurrent initiatives including feature development and operational work

Cross-Functional LeadershipDemonstrated ability to influence and align product management, design, TPMs, and backend teams

Talent ManagementExperience hiring while maintaining high talent bar, keeping engineers engaged, and handling performance management

Governance and Platform UXPreferred experience building or leading teams working on governance and platform UX in cloud environments
