Summary

Confluent is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Metrics Platform team, responsible for building a critical observability foundation that enables customers to monitor and optimize their real-time data streaming infrastructure. The ideal candidate will drive technical strategy, scale metrics infrastructure, and lead a high-performing engineering team focused on delivering real-time metrics and insights for cloud-scale data streaming applications.

What you'll do

Technical Strategy: Define and execute the multi-year technical roadmap for the Metrics Platform, including data infrastructure cluster evolution, data retention strategies, and query optimization

Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and grow a world-class engineering team, focusing on hiring top talent and driving high-performance results

Product Collaboration: Partner with Product Management to define and prioritize the Metrics API roadmap based on customer needs and business impact

Operational Excellence: Ensure 99.99%+ availability, sub-second query performance, and seamless incident response for the metrics platform

Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Telemetry, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product teams to deliver end-to-end observability solutions

What we look for

Technical

Distributed SystemsDeep understanding of distributed systems design, replication protocols, and high-availability production operations

Cloud PlatformsExperience operating complex architectures across large public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure) or private cloud-native infrastructures

Event StreamingFamiliarity with Kafka or similar high-scale event streaming platforms (Pulsar, Flink) in cloud environments

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Engineering Management4+ years of engineering management experience, leading productive, high-performing teams

Software Development14+ years of overall experience in software development and engineering
