Summary

Confluent is seeking a Senior Security Engineer II to join their infrastructure security engineering team, focusing on threat detection and response for their data streaming platform. This role involves building foundational security systems, developing detection strategies, and partnering with engineering teams to maintain visibility and security across large-scale cloud environments.

What you'll do

Security Telemetry Pipeline Development: Collaborate with engineering teams to build and configure pipelines for gathering security telemetry data across infrastructure

Security Monitoring Infrastructure: Build and maintain scalable security monitoring infrastructure solutions for large-scale distributed systems

Threat Detection Strategy: Develop comprehensive detection strategies to identify anomalous activity and protect critical infrastructure from threats

Incident Response Management: Triage security alerts and drive incident response processes to closure while minimizing business impact

Security Process Development: Build automated processes and workflows for security alert triage and incident response procedures

Threat Research and Analysis: Research emerging threat attack vectors and ensure detection capabilities align with current threat landscape

Detection Rule Optimization: Proactively improve detection rule quality and work with engineering teams to eliminate entire classes of security issues

Security Strategy Contribution: Contribute to overall security strategy, risk management, and prioritization for detection and response initiatives

Security Incident Detection and ResponseStrong domain knowledge in security incident detection, analysis, and response procedures

Telemetry SolutionsHands-on experience instrumenting and deploying telemetry solutions in large-scale, heterogeneous environments

Cloud SecurityDemonstrated experience with incident response and containment in cloud-first environments

Security Event ManagementExperience operating open-source and commercial logging and security event management solutions

Scripting and ProgrammingFluency in scripting or coding with interpreted languages for automation and tooling

Education

Bachelor's DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related technical field

Security CertificationsIndustry certifications such as CISSP, GCIH, GCFA, or equivalent security credentials preferred

Experience

Industry Experience8+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, or related fields

Distributed Team CollaborationProven experience working effectively with distributed teams and cross-functional stakeholders

Autonomous Decision MakingTrack record of operating with freedom and autonomy as a security decision-maker
