The role

Summary

Confluent is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead architecture and development of mission-critical internal applications that power deal lifecycle workflows, pricing, and operational efficiency for Sales, Finance, and Customer teams. This role combines deep technical expertise with cross-functional leadership, requiring 12+ years of experience in full-stack development with Go/Java and modern JavaScript frameworks.

What you'll do

System Architecture Leadership: Lead architecture, design, and implementation of high-impact internal web applications supporting deal lifecycle, pricing, quoting, and forecasting workflows

Cross-Team Technical Initiative Ownership: Own complex, cross-team technical initiatives from problem framing through design, implementation, rollout, and long-term evolution

Technical Investment Strategy: Identify and drive high-leverage technical investments that improve reliability, performance, developer velocity, and user experience across multiple applications

Microservices and API Design: Design and evolve microservices, APIs, and data models integrating with Salesforce, billing, data platforms, and analytics systems

Business-Technical Translation: Partner with Product Managers and stakeholders to translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical strategies and multi-quarter roadmaps

Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Provide technical leadership and mentoring for senior and mid-level engineers, raising standards for design quality, code quality, and operational excellence

Engineering Best Practices: Champion engineering best practices including testing, performance engineering, incident readiness, and secure coding across the team

Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with peer teams to define cohesive end-to-end solutions and shared platforms rather than point integrations

Technical Strategy Contribution: Contribute to technical strategy, architecture principles, and career standards for Application & AI Engineering domains

Platform Modernization: Modernize existing applications and platforms for scalability, availability, software delivery speed, and AI capabilities

Full-Stack Development ExpertiseDeep hands-on expertise in full-stack development using Go, Java, or similar languages, plus modern JavaScript frontends like React

Database and Streaming TechnologiesStrong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and event streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka
