The role

Summary

Cursor is seeking an Analytics Engineer to build data products and drive strategic decisions across the company as one of their first analytics hires. This role involves working across the entire data stack, partnering with founders and area leads, and pioneering self-serve analytics using AI-powered tools.

What you'll do

Cross-functional Partnership: Partner with area leads in Finance, Growth, Product, and Agent Quality to understand data needs and build foundational datasets
Data Stack Enhancement: Evaluate new tooling and AI integrations while collaborating with Data Infrastructure and product engineers
Data Quality Assurance: Ensure quality and reliability of data in the warehouse through comprehensive testing and monitoring
Self-serve Analytics Culture: Guide development of vibrant self-serve data culture making insights accessible and trustworthy
Data Foundation Building: Establish data culture and foundations as early member of data team and first analytics engineer
Strategic Decision Support: Drive strategic decisions across product, go-to-market, and research through data products and analysis
Query Optimization: Optimize queries for speed and cost on datasets growing by billions of rows per day
End-to-end Data Products: Build comprehensive data products from conception to deployment and maintenance

Analytics Engineering ExperienceMinimum 4+ years of full-time analytics engineering experience
Startup Data ExperienceExperience as early data member at hyper-growth startup or research organization
Large-scale Data OptimizationProven track record optimizing queries on datasets growing billions of rows per day
SQL/Python ProficiencyExpert-level proficiency in SQL and Python programming
Data Accuracy FocusDeep commitment to accuracy and attention to detail in data work
Modern Data StackExperience with modern data stack tools and self-serve analytics platforms

Education

Bachelor's DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical field
Advanced Degree PreferredMaster's degree in relevant field preferred for advanced analytics roles

Scaling Data TeamsExperience scaling data operations from 10 to 50+ data scientists
