The role

Summary

Staff Forward Deployed Engineer at Hims & Hers is a hands-on technical role combining software engineering expertise with business acumen to embed within functional teams and architect AI-powered workflow solutions. This position requires 8+ years of production engineering experience, deep proficiency in Python and backend technologies, and practical knowledge of LLMs and agentic patterns to transform business processes through intelligent automation. You'll own the complete lifecycle from discovering workflow inefficiencies to shipping production systems that drive measurable business outcomes across the healthcare and wellness platform.

What you'll do

Embed with Business Functions and Map Workflows: Spend sustained periods working alongside cross-functional teams to deeply understand current operating procedures, identifying where manual effort, handoffs, rework, and process bottlenecks create friction and inefficiency in business operations.
Identify High-Impact AI Opportunities: Conduct systematic analysis to surface opportunities where AI can deliver maximum value, prioritize initiatives based on potential business impact, and align with stakeholders on which challenges to tackle first and expected outcomes.
Design and Build AI-Powered Production Systems: Engineer and deploy production-ready AI workflows that solve identified business problems, leveraging LLM capabilities, agentic patterns, and workflow orchestration frameworks while maintaining code quality, observability, and performance standards.
Establish Reusable AI Capabilities and Platforms: Transform successful solutions built for individual teams into generalized, reusable components and platform capabilities that accelerate AI adoption across the entire organization and reduce technical debt.
Own End-to-End Outcomes and Impact Measurement: Partner across technical and business teams to define success metrics, measure achieved business results (revenue generated, costs saved, cycle time reduction, manual work eliminated), and communicate findings and learnings to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
Bridge Technical and Business Communication: Translate complex technical implementations into actionable insights for business teams and communicate business requirements and constraints to engineering partners, producing documentation and findings that both technical and non-technical audiences can understand and act upon.

Production Software Engineering with Complex Codebases8+ years of professional software engineering experience with proven ability to deliver production systems at scale across large, complex codebases with real business impact and customer-facing reliability requirements.
Python ExpertiseAdvanced proficiency in Python including modern idioms, async patterns, testing practices, and real-world deployment experience in production environments with performance-sensitive or high-throughput systems.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field (Preferred)Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field provides foundational knowledge; however, equivalent professional experience and demonstrated technical mastery are equally valued.
