The role

Summary

Hopper is seeking a foundational Data Engineer for their HTS Media Services division to build and maintain robust data infrastructure powering their advertising platform. The ideal candidate will design scalable data pipelines, create analytical data models, and lay the groundwork for future machine learning optimizations in the travel advertising ecosystem.

What you'll do

Data Architecture: Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable ETL/ELT pipelines to process high-volume advertising data
Analytical Warehouse Management: Develop and manage the analytical data warehouse as the single source of truth for reporting and analytics
Data Modeling: Create clean, reliable, and performant data models to power advertiser reporting dashboards, internal analytics, and billing systems
Data Quality Assurance: Implement robust data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting to ensure data accuracy and trustworthiness
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and product teams to define data requirements and support new ad products and features
Future-Ready Infrastructure: Build foundational data systems to enable future machine learning-driven optimizations for audience targeting and performance prediction

What we look for

Technical

Programming LanguagesExpert-level proficiency in SQL and Python or Scala for data processing
Cloud Data WarehousingHands-on experience with cloud-based solutions like BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift
Data Pipeline ToolsProven experience with orchestration tools such as SQLMesh, Airflow, or dbt
Real-time Data TechnologiesExperience with streaming technologies like Google Pub/Sub, Kafka, or Kinesis

Education

Relevant DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Data Engineering Experience4+ years of data engineering experience with a track record of building and maintaining data infrastructure at scale
Ad Tech or Large-Scale Data SystemsExperience in ad tech, retail media, or large-scale data systems is strongly preferred

SQLAdvanced SQL skills for complex data manipulation and analysis
Data Pipeline DevelopmentAbility to design and implement scalable data extraction, transformation, and loading processes
