The role

Summary

Mural is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Canvas Core team, responsible for driving technical excellence and guiding a high-performing engineering team. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills, focusing on delivering innovative visual collaboration solutions while mentoring and developing top engineering talent.

What you'll do

Technical Leadership: Actively contribute to the codebase (30-40% of time), participate in code reviews, debug production issues, and implement critical features while maintaining high code quality and system reliability
Team Development: Coach engineers through technical challenges, conduct meaningful 1:1s, provide actionable feedback, and create clear career development paths
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers and Designers to shape roadmaps, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and deliver measurable impact on key metrics
Engineering Excellence: Establish and maintain high standards for testing, monitoring, cost management, and operational excellence to ensure scalable and resilient services

What we look for

Technical

Programming LanguagesStrong expertise in Node.js/TypeScript and React, with adaptability to other modern tech stacks
Technical DomainsDeep understanding of computer graphics, distributed systems, WebSockets, WebGL, and cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, Databricks)

Education

Computer Science or Related FieldBachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred

Experience

Engineering ManagementMinimum 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience and 5+ years of engineering team management
Technical LeadershipProven track record of building high-performing teams and delivering complex technical solutions
