The role

Summary

Mural is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for their Trusted Products team, responsible for building critical security, governance, and data protection systems. The ideal candidate will lead full-stack engineers, develop backend services, and contribute to the platform's core infrastructure while balancing technical leadership and team development.

What you'll do

Team Leadership: Manage and develop full-stack engineers, create clarity around priorities, ownership, and execution, and drive predictable delivery against a defined roadmap
Technical Contribution: Contribute hands-on to design and implementation of backend services (approximately 30% of time), focusing on trust systems and platform integrity
System Development: Build backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, developing APIs and event-driven systems for data protection, audit logging, security integrations, and data governance controls
Operational Excellence: Define and uphold service-level objectives, improve monitoring and alerting, lead incident reviews, and drive continuous improvement in service reliability
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product to translate requirements, work closely with platform and infrastructure teams, and track engineering metrics related to delivery and service health

Backend SystemsExtensive experience building backend systems in a SaaS environment
Security KnowledgeStrong understanding of secure API design, event-driven systems, access control, and observability
Technology StackProficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, and modern backend development technologies

Education

Relevant DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Engineering ExperienceMinimum 5+ years of software engineering experience
Management ExperienceMinimum 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams
