The role

Summary

Mural is seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in AI Product Development to join their innovative AI Innovation Team. The ideal candidate will drive AI-powered features that enhance visual collaboration, working across product and design to create intuitive, high-impact capabilities that amplify human creativity and decision-making.

What you'll do

AI System Development: Build and refine early-stage AI systems and frameworks that enhance user experiences and deliver measurable improvements in performance and relevance
Strategic AI Innovation: Work closely with cross-functional teams to define AI innovation priorities and long-term strategy for Mural
Problem Solving: Translate complex, open-ended problems into structured engineering approaches using data analysis, experimentation, and machine learning principles
Technical Leadership: Champion technical excellence and mentorship, fostering best practices in AI development and nurturing a culture of inclusivity and collaboration
Team Development: Shape the future of the team through thoughtful hiring, process improvements, and initiatives that attract and develop exceptional AI talent

What we look for

Technical

AI Product DevelopmentProven experience in developing generative AI products with full lifecycle implementation
PrototypingStrong capability in prototyping and pathfinding new technological opportunities
AI Model DevelopmentExpertise in selecting, implementing, and maintaining AI models from ideation to production

Education

Advanced DegreeMasters or PhD in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or related field (preferred)

Experience

Software Engineering7+ years of software engineering experience
Generative AI2+ years of specific experience in developing generative AI products

Skills

Required skills

CommunicationExcellent written and verbal communication skills for producing clear technical documentation
Product UnderstandingAbility to develop deep product and business knowledge to connect AI modeling with tangible business value

Nice to have

AI SpecializationsExpertise in AI indexing, retrieval systems, personalization, and natural language processing
MentorshipExperience in mentoring and aligning senior engineering talent
