Summary

OpenAI is seeking an experienced Android Engineer to join their Growth team, focusing on developing mobile experiences that drive user activation, conversion, and retention for ChatGPT's paid offerings. The ideal candidate will build high-impact Android features that enhance user engagement and subscription experiences.

What you'll do

Android Feature Development: Build and ship high-quality Android features that improve activation, conversion, and retention for ChatGPT's paid offerings
End-to-End Product Ownership: Own full development lifecycle of growth initiatives, from technical design through launch and iteration
Subscription Experience Design: Develop comprehensive subscription experiences including paywalls, upgrade prompts, purchase flows, and entitlement management
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, design, and data teams to define hypotheses, run experiments, and measure impact
Technical Architecture: Contribute to the evolution of Android architecture, tooling, testing practices, and engineering standards
User Experience Optimization: Use experimentation and user insights to continuously improve the paid user experience

What we look for

Technical

Android DevelopmentMinimum 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant Android development background
Programming LanguagesAdvanced proficiency in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
API IntegrationExperience integrating backend APIs and building robust client-side architectures

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Consumer Mobile DevelopmentTrack record of shipping and maintaining consumer-facing Android features at scale
ExperimentationExperience using data and experimentation to inform product decisions and iterate quickly
