The role

Summary

OpenAI's Monetization team is seeking a Senior iOS Engineer to build foundational mobile monetization experiences from the ground up. This greenfield role involves designing core iOS systems for user accounts, payments, subscriptions, and monetized experiences while partnering across product, design, research, and backend teams to scale AI access responsibly.

What you'll do

Build iOS Monetization Experiences: Design and ship new monetization features including purchase flows, subscription management, and AI-powered monetization surfaces
Develop Shared iOS Frameworks: Create and maintain reusable frameworks for account management, trust systems, and commerce flows across OpenAI's mobile applications
Own Complex Client-Side Systems: Manage comprehensive iOS systems spanning UI, networking, local state management, observability, and Apple platform integrations
Optimize Performance and Reliability: Ensure global-scale performance with robust offline handling, poor network resilience, and safe rollout strategies
Establish Testing Architecture: Build comprehensive testing frameworks including unit, integration, snapshot/UI, and end-to-end testing with maintainable architecture
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, Research, and backend teams to translate requirements into durable systems and user experiences
Ensure Safety and Compliance: Maintain highest standards for safety, privacy, fairness, and policy compliance across all monetization experiences
Provide Technical Leadership: Lead through architectural reviews, mentoring team members, and establishing engineering standards for iOS monetization systems

iOS Development Expertise4+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant iOS ownership and production app delivery
Swift ProficiencyExpert-level fluency in Swift programming language and Apple's development ecosystem
Apple Ecosystem KnowledgeExtensive experience with Xcode, SwiftUI, and Apple platform frameworks
Complex Systems OwnershipProven track record owning mobile systems end-to-end including architecture, delivery, instrumentation, quality, and operations
