The role

Summary

Patreon is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer for its Taxonomy team to develop advanced content classification systems that power platform discovery, recommendations, and insights. The ideal candidate will leverage machine learning expertise to create sophisticated taxonomies that enhance creator-fan matching and platform relevance.

What you'll do

Machine Learning Pipeline Development: Build and deploy machine learning pipelines to generate taxonomies for creators, content, and risk profiles across the Patreon platform
Data Analysis and Modeling: Conduct exploratory data analyses and develop proof-of-concept machine learning models to identify new opportunities and assess potential project impact
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, design, legal, and trust and safety teams to design effective machine learning solutions
Model Training and Deployment: Prepare training data, train machine learning models using novel techniques, and deploy models to production with backend code as needed
Model Performance Optimization: Debug and iterate on machine learning models by analyzing observability data and addressing performance gaps
Technical Communication: Translate complex data insights into actionable information for cross-functional partners and executive leadership

Machine Learning ExpertiseDeep knowledge of natural language processing, topic modeling, and clustering techniques
Programming SkillsProficiency in Python and common ML/NLP libraries with ability to write clean, robust production-level code
System InfrastructureExperience with distributed systems, production pipelines, and model deployment frameworks

Education

Academic BackgroundBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field

Experience

Professional Experience8+ years of experience in machine learning engineering or applied machine learning roles
End-to-End ML ExperienceProven track record of working in full machine learning lifecycle: data analysis, model building, production deployment, performance monitoring, and A/B testing
