What you'll do.
Ramp is seeking a Backend Engineer for their Ops Engineering team to build internal tools and infrastructure that empower operations teams. The role focuses on full-stack development, AI integration, and creating scalable systems using modern technologies like Python, TypeScript, React, and AWS. Responsibilities
- Full-Stack Internal Application Development: Design and build comprehensive internal applications and tools that empower operations teams to work more efficiently and deliver exceptional customer experiences
- Backend Service Architecture: Develop robust backend services and APIs that power internal tooling, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance at enterprise scale
- Third-Party Platform Integration: Build seamless integrations with platforms like Retool, Zendesk, and other operational systems to create unified workflows
- AI-Powered Automation: Leverage AI tooling and capabilities to build intelligent automation, enhance operator productivity, and improve decision-making within internal tools
- Data-Driven Feature Development: Create analytics features and data visualization that provide operations teams with actionable insights and improved visibility into business metrics
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations stakeholders to understand pain points, gather detailed requirements, and iterate on solutions that solve real business problems
- Code Quality and Best Practices: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following software engineering best practices including comprehensive unit and integration testing
- Engineering Culture Development: Participate in code reviews, mentor team members, and contribute to the growth of engineering culture and technical standards
- End-to-End Feature Ownership: Own features from initial design through deployment, monitoring, and continuous iteration based on user feedback and performance metrics
- Production Support and Monitoring: Participate in On Call rotation to resolve critical issues impacting internal users and maintain system reliability

Technical
Backend Programming Proficiency
Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python, TypeScript/Node.js, with demonstrated ability to build production-grade applications
Full-Stack Development Experience
Experience building full-stack applications with modern frameworks including React, Next.js, or similar frontend technologies
Backend Architecture Knowledge
Solid understanding of backend architecture patterns, RESTful API design, microservices, and distributed systems
Database Systems Expertise
Hands-on experience with database systems including PostgreSQL, Redis, and understanding of data modeling and optimization

Join our growing Ops Engineering team and help build internal tooling and infrastructure that empowers operators at Ramp. As an internal-facing team, you'll work directly with our operations teams to design, implement, and scale tools and systems that enable them to serve our customers more efficiently and effectively. Much of our work involves managing the Retool platform, building custom tooling on top of platforms like Zendesk, developing internal API to support internal operations, and creating operator-facing applications that help our ops teams move faster and deliver better customer experiences.

What You'll Need
