The role

Summary

Ramp is seeking a Backend Software Engineer for their Core Product team to build and scale systems that power their $100B+ financial operations platform. You'll work on card transactions, spend controls, and AI-powered automation systems that help 50,000+ businesses optimize their financial operations.

What you'll do

Backend Systems Design: Design, build, and scale backend systems that power spend controls, approval workflows, and card transactions at massive scale
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to deliver intelligent, user-first experiences for finance teams
AI Platform Integration: Integrate with Ramp's internal AI platform to automate spend policy enforcement and anomaly detection
End-to-End Project Ownership: Own complex projects from architecture design through deployment and observability implementation
Platform Partnership: Partner with Product Platform and Integrations teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and data consistency across financial systems
Infrastructure Optimization: Continuously improve Ramp's transaction and policy infrastructure for performance, accuracy, and resilience

Backend Systems ExperienceStrong fundamentals in backend systems and API design with focus on scalability
Programming LanguagesProficiency in Python, Go, or TypeScript for backend development
Database ManagementExperience with PostgreSQL for complex financial data operations
Cloud InfrastructureFamiliarity with AWS cloud services and deployment
ObservabilityExperience with modern monitoring, logging, and alerting tools

Education

Computer Science BackgroundBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Experience

Software Engineering2+ years of software engineering experience with backend or fullstack focus on backend systems
Product DevelopmentExperience balancing technical quality with speed and user value delivery
High-Ownership EnvironmentProven ability to thrive in collaborative, high-ownership engineering environments
