Summary

Xero is seeking a highly experienced VP of Engineering to lead and transform their technology teams, driving strategic platform development and operational excellence for small business technology solutions. The ideal candidate will be a visionary technical leader who can scale engineering teams, improve software delivery, and create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Drive quarterly planning and engineering strategies across platform and enablement teams, ensuring alignment with Xero's overall business goals
Team Development: Build and lead a high-performing leadership team, focusing on talent acquisition, continuous learning, and leadership growth
Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance and ensure engineering teams maintain high-quality software delivery, performance, and reliability
Cultural Leadership: Foster an innovative, results-oriented engineering culture that embraces Xero's values and promotes software craftsmanship
Operational Excellence: Manage engineering budgets, implement cost efficiencies, and support critical operational processes like on-call rotations and documentation

What we look for

Technical

System ArchitectureDeep expertise in designing and scaling web-scale systems and data platforms
Technology StrategyProven ability to guide technology transformation, including monolithic application decomposition and modern software development practices

Education

Advanced DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Leadership Experience15+ years in technology leadership, with at least 7 years leading large-scale engineering teams (150+ engineers)
Organizational ManagementDemonstrated success in managing global, distributed engineering teams and driving organizational transformation
