The role

Summary

Zip is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Internal AI team, focusing on building central AI platform capabilities that accelerate AI adoption across non-software engineering teams. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical anchor, architecting solutions, reviewing use cases, and creating scalable AI integration strategies with a pragmatic approach to technology implementation.

What you'll do

Platform Capabilities Development: Build central platform services, agents, and integrations that serve as building blocks for non-software engineering teams
AI Use Case Architecture: Review and triage AI use cases across different teams, recommending appropriate implementation strategies from off-the-shelf tools to custom builds
Application Standards Enforcement: Set and enforce application-level standards including integration patterns, data handling, identity management, evaluations, and observability
Engineering Interface Management: Serve as the primary interface between business teams and core Engineering, triaging and specifying infrastructure needs
Strategic AI Solution Development: Develop production-ready solutions when no existing tools meet the specific requirements, ensuring comprehensive documentation and ownership

What we look for

Technical

Backend Development6+ years of experience building and operating backend applications in production
AI ToolingHands-on experience with modern AI tools like Claude Code, Cowork, MCP, LLM APIs, and evaluation frameworks
Infrastructure UnderstandingDeep understanding of hosting, identity management, secrets handling, and data flow

Education

Technical DegreeBachelor's or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

Experience

Production EngineeringProven track record of developing and maintaining production-grade applications
Cross-Functional CollaborationExperience working between core engineering teams and business/Go-to-Market teams
