Summary

Airwallex is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for their Risk Platform team in Singapore, responsible for developing and leading cutting-edge fraud detection and risk management systems using advanced technologies like machine learning and graph analysis. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership, build high-performing engineering teams, and drive innovation in protecting global financial products.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Own the strategy and roadmap for real-time fraud detection systems and client-facing risk management products at global scale

Team Development: Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including setting goals, establishing career paths, and cultivating a culture of excellence

Technical Oversight: Serve as the accountable owner for system architecture, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of real-time decisioning platforms

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Design, Operations, Commercial, and Strategy teams to shape fraud management product strategy

Operational Excellence: Manage on-call readiness, incident response, postmortems, observability, and continuous reliability improvements

What we look for

Technical

Backend EngineeringMinimum 8+ years of back-end engineering experience with complex, distributed systems

Programming LanguagesProficiency in Java, with strong understanding of multi-threading, high-concurrency patterns, and network programming

System ArchitectureDeep experience with distributed systems, high-availability, and high-throughput architectures

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field

Experience

Engineering ManagementMinimum 2+ years of engineering management experience

Risk ManagementExperience in risk management or Fintech product engineering

Skills

Required skills

JavaProficient in Java programming with advanced system design capabilities

Distributed SystemsExpert in designing and managing high-availability, scalable distributed systems

KubernetesPractical experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration

Nice to have

Machine LearningWorking knowledge of machine learning in production and strong data analysis skills

Cloud TechnologiesExperience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Alibaba Cloud
