Summary

Airwallex is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for their Risk Platform team in Singapore, responsible for developing and leading cutting-edge fraud detection systems using advanced technologies like machine learning and graph analysis. The ideal candidate will drive strategic risk management solutions while building and scaling a high-performing engineering organization.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of real-time risk detection systems and fraud management products protecting customers and revenue at global scale

Team Development: Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including setting goals, establishing career paths, and cultivating a culture of ownership and excellence

Technical Oversight: Serve as accountable owner for architecture and system quality, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of real-time decisioning systems

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Design, Operations, Commercial, and Strategy teams to shape future fraud management products

Operational Excellence: Manage on-call readiness, incident response, postmortems, observability, and continuous reliability improvements

What we look for

Technical

Backend Engineering8+ years in back-end engineering with expertise in distributed systems and high-availability architectures

Programming LanguagesProficiency in Java, with strong skills in multi-threading, high-concurrency patterns, and network programming

Technology StackExperience with Spring/Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes, HTTP, TCP/IP, REST, and build tools like Gradle/Maven

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field

Experience

Engineering Management2+ years of engineering management experience, with ownership of complex, distributed production systems

Risk ManagementExperience in risk management or Fintech product engineering

Skills

Required skills

Distributed SystemsDeep understanding of high-availability, high-throughput architectures including caching, partitioning, and consistency models

LeadershipAbility to develop managers and senior engineers, set clear goals, and create career development paths

Nice to have

Machine LearningWorking knowledge of machine learning in production and strong data analysis skills

Cloud TechnologiesExperience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Alibaba Cloud, with strong networking and security understanding
