Role
What you'll do.
Senior/Staff-level Software Engineer role on Airwallex's Citizen Developers Infrastructure team, responsible for designing and operating the internal platform that empowers non-technical teams to build and run workflows and automations safely. You'll bridge application code and infrastructure, building developer tooling, establishing security guardrails, and maintaining Temporal-based workflow infrastructure with experience in Kubernetes, GitOps, and platform engineering at scale.
Responsibilities
- Design and build citizen-developer platform services: Create intuitive, secure platform abstractions and tooling that enable non-product engineering teams (operations, finance, analysts) to safely build and deploy automations and workflows without requiring deep infrastructure knowledge, while embedding security, compliance, and software engineering best practices by default.
- Establish secure SDLC and governance guardrails: Implement security controls, compliance frameworks, and development process standards for citizen-developer-built applications to ensure regulatory requirements and organizational policies are automatically enforced, reducing manual oversight and security risks.
- Build self-serve operations and development tooling: Develop comprehensive operational dashboards, monitoring solutions, and development utilities that reduce dependencies on central platform engineering teams, enabling application teams to diagnose issues, manage deployments, and iterate independently.
- Design and maintain Temporal-based workflow infrastructure: Engineer and operate production Temporal workflow orchestration systems addressing multi-tenancy, high availability, disaster recovery, and cost optimization at scale while ensuring reliable execution of mission-critical business processes.
- Contribute to Kubernetes and GitOps foundation: Enhance and maintain the Kubernetes cluster infrastructure, ArgoCD deployment automation, Helm package management, and Terraform infrastructure-as-code tooling that power the platform, ensuring deployments are auditable, repeatable, and safe with proper rollback capabilities.
- Participate in on-call rotation and incident response: Engage in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on-call rotations for workflow-related services; lead incident response procedures, post-mortems, and drive long-term architectural fixes that improve system reliability and prevent recurrence.
- Document standards and reference architectures: Create comprehensive documentation of platform patterns, best practices, reference architectures, and operational runbooks that serve as self-serve guidance for teams building on top of the platform, accelerating adoption and ensuring consistent implementation.

About The Team
The Citizen Developers Infrastructure team sits within the Infrastructure & Productivity organization and is responsible for the internal platform that powers critical business processes at Airwallex.
We build and operate a citizen‑developer platform that lets non‑product engineering groups safely build and run workflows and automations. Our goal is to make it easy and safe for these “citizen developers” to ship value quickly while embedding security, compliance, and software engineering best practices by default.
This role is based in Singapore.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer on the Citizen Developers Infrastructure team, you will design, build, and operate the platform services that underpin Airwallex’s citizen‑developer ecosystem and internal workflow automation.
You will partner closely with application teams and citizen developers to define tooling, patterns, and development processes, while continuously improving the platform abstractions and paved paths they build on. You’ll be responsible both for the developer experience and guardrails of the platform, and for the underlying workflow infrastructure that makes it reliable and scalable.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and evolve the citizen‑developer platform and tools that make it easy to create and operate automation / applications without deep infrastructure knowledge.
Establish secure SDLC and guardrails for citizen‑developer‑built applications so compliance and security are baked in by default.
Build self‑serve development and operations tooling that reduce dependence on central platform engineers.
Design, build, and maintain the Temporal‑based workflow infrastructure, addressing challenges such as multi‑tenancy, high availability, and cost effectiveness.
Contribute to the Kubernetes and GitOps foundation (ArgoCD, Helm, Terraform) that powers the platform, ensuring deployments are safe, repeatable, and auditable.
Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on‑call rotation for workflow‑related services, leading incident response and driving long‑term fixes where needed.
Document standards, best practices, and reference architectures so teams building on top of the platform have clear, self‑serve guidance.
Who You Are
You are a backend/platform engineer who enjoys building shared platforms, cares deeply about developer experience, correctness, and operability, and is comfortable working at the intersection of application code and infrastructure.
You get energy from enabling other teams to move faster safely, through well‑designed abstractions, tooling, and guardrails.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Software / Platform Engineering roles, building and operating backend or platform services in production.
Strong hands‑on experience with at least one strongly typed backend language (e.g., Golang, Java) and familiarity with Python or Bash for tooling/automation.
Experience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams, with a strong focus on developer experience.
Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices/tooling (ideally ArgoCD and Terraform).
Experience building platforms or tooling for non‑product engineering users (e.g., operations, finance, analysts) or low‑code/no‑code / citizen‑developer environments is a strong plus.
Proven experience with Temporal or similar workflow/orchestration systems (e.g., Cadence, Step Functions, Airflow) or large‑scale stateful workloads (e.g., Redis clusters, Cassandra, HBase) in production is a huge plus.
Comfortable working in highly collaborative, multi‑team environments, able to translate platform constraints into clear APIs, contracts, and paved paths for application teams and citizen developers.
Practical, proactive problem solver who can navigate ambiguity, break down complex technical problems, and drive them to closure.
