Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Software Engineer II for their Tech Platform team to build scalable backend infrastructure powering global fintech operations. The role involves developing API gateways, traffic management systems, and workflow orchestration platforms using technologies like Java, Go, Kubernetes, and various database systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems at a $8B fintech unicorn serving over 200,000 businesses globally.

What you'll do

Infrastructure Development: Build and refine cutting-edge application infrastructure that eliminates technical bottlenecks and accelerates business innovation

API Gateway Management: Design and maintain north-south and east-west API gateways for seamless external and internal service interactions

Traffic Routing Systems: Develop robust global routing infrastructure balancing regulatory compliance with high-performance user experience

Search Platform Engineering: Build and optimize intelligent search platform for fast, accurate information retrieval across services

Notification Orchestration: Design and implement efficient delivery systems for SMS, Email, Webhooks, and Push notifications

Workflow Automation: Create and maintain seamless workflow creation, scheduling, and execution systems

Technology Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of emerging solutions and guide long-term architectural decisions

Performance Optimization: Optimize system performance using advanced profiling techniques and monitoring tools

Distributed Systems Design: Architect and implement scalable distributed systems handling global fintech operations

What we look for

Technical

Backend ProgrammingStrong proficiency in Java, Go, Rust, Lua, or Python with corresponding frameworks

Cloud InfrastructureExperience with AWS, GCP, or Alibaba Cloud services and infrastructure management

Container OrchestrationHands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Istio for container management

Database SystemsProven experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and distributed system concepts

API Gateway TechnologiesStrong familiarity with NGINX, OpenResty, Envoy, APISIX, Kong for traffic management

API Lifecycle ManagementDeep understanding of API design, security, authentication, authorization, and threat mitigation

Education

Bachelor's DegreeComputer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Backend Development2-4 years of experience building scalable backend systems and APIs

Distributed SystemsExperience working with high-scale distributed systems and microservices architecture

Cloud InfrastructurePractical experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments
