Summary

Airwallex is seeking a talented Software Engineer for its Spend Management team in Melbourne, focusing on backend services that power the company's global financial platform. The ideal candidate will design scalable, secure backend systems for credit card and expense management, working at the intersection of backend infrastructure and customer-facing applications.

What you'll do

Backend Service Design: Design and implement scalable, secure backend services for the Cards product within the Spend Management team

System Architecture: Contribute to the long-term technical vision and architecture of backend systems

Feature Ownership: Own end-to-end delivery of new features from technical design through production implementation

Code Quality: Write high-quality, testable code with focus on reliability, maintainability, and engineering best practices

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product, infrastructure, and design teams to deliver complex financial technology solutions

Technical Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to other engineers, helping raise the overall engineering capabilities of the team

What we look for

Technical

Backend DevelopmentHands-on experience designing and building production-grade backend systems and APIs

Programming LanguagesProficiency in at least one backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python

System DesignStrong computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems

Cloud InfrastructureExperience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, and container orchestration using Kubernetes

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

Experience

Professional ExperienceMinimum of 2+ years of professional software engineering experience

Backend DevelopmentStrong skills in designing and implementing backend services

REST API DesignSolid understanding of RESTful API design and backend frameworks like Spring Boot
