The role

Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to lead the Growth Analytics team, driving scalable growth strategies through advanced data science techniques including root-cause analysis, statistical modeling, and experimentation. The role involves partnering with cross-functional teams to optimize customer acquisition, activation, and retention while mentoring junior data scientists and establishing measurement frameworks for data-driven decision making.

What you'll do

Technical Leadership: Operate as the technical partner to Growth, Marketing, Sales and Data Science leaders to define and implement Airwallex's growth strategy

Team Mentorship: Lead and mentor the team in applying a variety of data science techniques—root-cause analysis, statistical modeling, and experimentation—to identify opportunities and drive product-led growth

Business Problem Solving: Establish insight-driven approaches to address key business problems and drive measurable business impact across acquisition, activation, retention, and reactivation

Framework Development: Build scalable measurement frameworks that enable consistent, data-driven decision-making across teams and inform growth strategy

Stakeholder Communication: Clearly and persuasively communicate data insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring findings influence stakeholders

Project Translation: Translate open-ended business problems into clearly defined data science initiatives for the team to implement

Cross-functional Ownership: Mentor and coach junior data scientists, and act as the single-threaded technical owner on cross-functional initiatives

Programming ProficiencyStrong skills in SQL and Python/R for data analysis and statistical modeling

Data Science ExpertiseProven experience applying data science techniques including root-cause analysis, statistical modeling, and experimentation

Data ModelingExperience with data modeling and building scalable measurement frameworks

Growth AnalyticsDemonstrated experience applying data science to drive growth initiatives with concrete impact

Education

Quantitative DegreeDegree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Engineering, Sciences, Computer Science, or Economics

Advanced Degree PreferredPhD or MS in relevant field preferred for advanced statistical and analytical capabilities

Experience

Industry Experience7+ years of industry experience in data science or analytics roles

Leadership ExperienceProven experience mentoring or leading data science or data analytics teams

Strategic InfluenceExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to influence strategy in high-growth environments

Domain ExperienceExperience in technology, financial services and/or high growth environment is advantageous
