The role

Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Staff Mobile Engineer to lead the technical direction of their mobile platform across iOS and Android. The ideal candidate will be a senior mobile engineering expert responsible for defining mobile architecture, improving platform capabilities, and driving cross-team technical initiatives for the Mobile Foundations team.

What you'll do

Mobile Architecture Leadership: Lead the design and evolution of shared architecture for native mobile apps, including navigation, state management, networking, offline strategies, and error handling.

Platform Capabilities: Own and maintain shared libraries and frameworks including design system components, analytics, feature flags, authentication, and observability tools.

Mobile Quality and Performance: Drive mobile application security, define platform-level metrics, improve reliability, performance, and overall mobile quality.

Developer Experience: Improve CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, documentation, and automation for mobile engineering teams.

Release Management: Own the end-to-end mobile release process across iOS and Android, ensuring timely and reliable delivery of new versions.

Technical Leadership: Provide technical mentorship, conduct design reviews, and contribute to hiring and growth of the mobile engineering community.

What we look for

Technical

Mobile Development8-10+ years of native mobile app development experience with deep expertise in iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) or Android (Kotlin, AndroidX)

Architecture SkillsProven track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives and evolving mobile architectures

CI/CDExperience with mobile CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Bitrise

Education

Academic QualificationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Experience

Senior LeadershipAt least 3+ years operating at Senior or Staff engineering level

Cross-Team CollaborationDemonstrated ability to influence and align stakeholders across engineering, product, and design teams

Mobile DevelopmentExpert-level knowledge of iOS (Swift, SwiftUI, Combine) or Android (Kotlin, AndroidX, Coroutines)

Architecture DesignExperience in modularization, design systems, and platform-level architecture
