Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Staff/Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design and build a robust citizen developer platform that enables non-technical teams to create workflows and automations safely and efficiently. The role focuses on creating scalable infrastructure solutions that empower internal teams to develop applications with embedded security and compliance best practices.

What you'll do

Platform Development: Design, build, and evolve the citizen-developer platform and tools that simplify application and automation creation without requiring deep infrastructure knowledge

Security and Compliance: Establish secure Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and guardrails to ensure compliance and security are inherently built into citizen-developer applications

Self-Serve Tooling: Develop self-serve development and operations tools that reduce dependency on central platform engineering teams

Workflow Infrastructure: Design, build, and maintain Temporal-based workflow infrastructure addressing multi-tenancy, high availability, and cost-effectiveness challenges

Infrastructure as Code: Contribute to Kubernetes and GitOps foundations using tools like ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform to ensure safe, repeatable, and auditable deployments

Technical Leadership: Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and on-call rotations for workflow-related services, leading incident response and driving long-term solutions

Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation of standards, best practices, and reference architectures to provide clear guidance for platform users

What we look for

Technical

Backend LanguagesProficiency in strongly typed backend languages like Golang or Java, with familiarity in Python or Bash for tooling and automation

Platform EngineeringExperience designing and building internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams

KubernetesStrong experience with Kubernetes and GitOps practices, including tools like ArgoCD and Terraform

Workflow OrchestrationExperience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration systems like Cadence, Step Functions, or Airflow

Education

DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Industry Experience6+ years of experience in Software/Platform Engineering roles, with proven track record of building and operating backend or platform services in production

Developer ToolingExperience building platforms or tooling for non-product engineering users or citizen-developer environments

KubernetesHands-on experience with Kubernetes deployment and management

Backend DevelopmentStrong backend development skills in at least one strongly typed language
