The role

Summary

Airwallex seeks a Staff Software Engineer to build and maintain cutting-edge cloud infrastructure supporting global cross-border payment solutions. The role focuses on designing scalable, secure systems using Kubernetes, service mesh, and public cloud platforms while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability and performance at enterprise scale.

What you'll do

Cloud Infrastructure Design: Design and implement scalable, secure cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS, GCP, and Azure platforms

Kubernetes Management: Build and maintain Kubernetes clusters and container orchestration systems

Service Mesh Implementation: Deploy and manage Istio service mesh for secure inter-service communication

Infrastructure as Code: Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions for automated provisioning and deployment

System Automation: Create automation tools and scripts to eliminate manual processes and improve operational efficiency

Security Implementation: Implement and maintain security best practices across cloud infrastructure and services

Performance Optimization: Monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance to ensure high availability and reliability

Cross-team Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions

Service Development: Write and maintain services in Go or Python for infrastructure management and tooling

Global Scaling: Design and implement solutions that support Airwallex's global expansion and scaling requirements

What we look for

Technical

Distributed Systems Experience8+ years of hands-on experience working with large-scale distributed systems

Public Cloud ExpertiseDeep experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms

Kubernetes ProficiencyAdvanced knowledge of Kubernetes container orchestration and cluster management

Istio Service MeshPractical experience implementing and managing Istio service mesh

Programming LanguagesAbility to write services in Go (preferred) or Python

RESTful API DesignSolid understanding of RESTful API design principles and patterns

Infrastructure as CodeExperience with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar

Security Best PracticesStrong security skills and hands-on experience with cloud security implementations

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or similar technical field

Senior Engineering Experience8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering with focus on infrastructure

Large-scale SystemsProven track record working with enterprise-level distributed systems and high-traffic applications

Cloud Platform ExperienceExtensive hands-on experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)
