The role

Summary

Mapbox is seeking a Senior/Lead Software Data Engineer for their Roads Team to develop and optimize data processing pipelines for global road networks. The ideal candidate will have strong distributed computing skills, cloud expertise, and the ability to design and implement scalable data solutions that support Mapbox's location platform.

What you'll do

Data Pipeline Development: Take ownership of existing data processing pipelines, improve scalability, and iterate on current systems

Pipeline Design: Design and implement new data processing pipelines for road network mapping and navigation

Performance Monitoring: Collect and monitor performance metrics for data processing systems and infrastructure

Security Implementation: Contribute to discussing and implementing security best practices across data engineering processes

What we look for

Technical

Programming LanguagesProficiency in at least one of: C++, Python, Scala, or Java

Cloud PlatformsExperience with AWS services (S3, EC2, IAM, EMR, Glue, Athena, Kinesis) or comparable cloud platforms

Database SkillsAdvanced SQL skills and understanding of SQL engine fundamentals

Distributed ComputingStrong understanding of distributed computing principles and architectures

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred
