The role

Summary

As a Software Engineer, AI at Pylon, you'll build intelligent features for B2B post-sales teams using conversational data and cutting-edge AI technology. You'll own full-stack development across the platform, from AI evaluation infrastructure to production agentic systems, working with a senior engineering team from companies like Airbnb, Meta, and Samsara. This role requires 3+ years of product engineering experience, strong full-stack fundamentals, and a passion for shipping fast in ambiguous startup environments with high autonomy and end-to-end ownership.

What you'll do

Build AI-Powered Features for Post-Sales Operations: Develop and ship AI-driven features that enable Customer Support and Customer Success teams to run their operations more efficiently. Focus on creating user-centric solutions that leverage conversational data and machine learning models to automate workflows, improve response times, and enhance customer engagement at scale.
Architect and Maintain AI Infrastructure and Platforms: Build and optimize the core platform systems powering Pylon's AI capabilities, including prompt execution engines, search infrastructure, and real-time data pipelines. Ensure these systems are scalable, performant, and maintainable as the company scales from 1500+ customers to enterprise deployments.
Implement LLM Observability and AI Evaluation Systems: Design and develop comprehensive AI evaluation frameworks (both online and offline), scorer implementations, and monitoring systems for Large Language Models. Establish observability practices that enable continuous improvement of AI outputs and prepare Pylon's infrastructure for next-generation scaling challenges.
Own Full-Stack Development Lifecycle: Take complete ownership of features from conception through deployment, including backend development, frontend implementation, and infrastructure considerations. Work independently on assigned projects while maintaining high code quality, writing testable code, and documenting technical decisions for team knowledge.
Execute in Rapid Prototyping and Iteration Cycles: Build prototypes quickly, gather customer feedback through iterative development, and ship features rapidly in an environment that values speed and learning. Balance shipping velocity with code quality and technical sustainability, making pragmatic trade-offs guided by business impact.
Collaborate Across Functional Teams: Work closely with Product Managers to translate customer requirements into technical solutions, partner with Design teams on user experience implementation, and coordinate with other engineers on architectural decisions. Participate in non-waterfall development processes that emphasize communication and adaptability.
