The role

Summary

Zapier is seeking a Backend Engineer for their External Platform Zone to help shape partner-powered automation through innovative API development. The role focuses on designing scalable integration solutions that enable companies to create native automation experiences within their products using the Powered by Zapier API.

What you'll do

API Development: Design and build partner-facing APIs that enable automation and integration directly within partner platforms
Platform Enhancement: Expand and improve the Powered by Zapier platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, and exceptional developer experience
Developer Tools: Enhance partner developer tools and documentation to create seamless onboarding and implementation experiences
Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate across Platform, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering teams to ensure smooth integration and interoperability
Technical Leadership: Lead technical initiatives, mentor teammates, and contribute to architectural decisions that set long-term product direction

Language ProficiencyExpert-level Python programming with strong experience in Django and Django REST Framework
API AuthenticationComprehensive knowledge of OAuth, API keys, JWTs, and secure API authentication patterns
System DesignAbility to design high-performance, resilient, and maintainable backend systems

Education

DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience

Experience

API DevelopmentProven experience building and maintaining production-grade APIs and integration points
Developer ExperienceTrack record of creating user-friendly, well-documented developer interfaces and tools
