The role

Summary

Zapier is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer to build and unify the company's AI platform, creating foundational infrastructure for AI products like Agents, Chatbots, and AI by Zapier. The role involves designing scalable, reliable AI systems that will power automation experiences for millions of users, requiring deep expertise in large language models, system architecture, and production AI engineering.

What you'll do

Platform Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of a unified AI platform that supports multiple AI products at Zapier
Technical Leadership: Guide architectural decisions, runtime consolidation, and technical standards for AI Capabilities team
Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with product teams to define interfaces, support migrations, and translate product needs into platform capabilities
Engineering Mentorship: Mentor engineers, share AI engineering patterns, and elevate the technical capabilities of the AI team

Technical

LLM ExpertiseAt least 2 years of hands-on production experience with large language models
AI System DesignProven ability to design scalable, reliable AI platforms

Education

Advanced DegreeComputer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (not required)

Large Language ModelsHands-on production experience with LLMs, transformer networks, and agent architectures
