The role

Summary

Wealthsimple is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for its Fraud team, focusing on developing sophisticated machine learning models to balance fraud risk and client experience in a fast-paced fintech environment. The ideal candidate will blend advanced analytical skills with product insights to drive data-driven decision making and enhance financial security.

What you'll do

Fraud Detection Modeling: Develop and deploy advanced machine learning models to identify and prevent fraudulent activities
Product Strategy: Collaborate with product managers to define success metrics and execute data-driven product strategies
Experimental Analysis: Design, implement, and analyze experiments for new product features and fraud prevention techniques
Trend Monitoring: Monitor and report on fraud trends and client experience gaps to inform strategic decisions
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, and fraud strategy teams to enhance fraud prevention capabilities

What we look for

Technical

Machine LearningAdvanced skills in building machine learning models for fraud detection
ProgrammingProficiency in Python and SQL for data analysis and modeling
Data PipelineExperience with end-to-end machine learning pipeline development

Education

Advanced DegreeMaster's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field preferred
Analytical DegreeStrong academic background in data science, operations research, or similar analytical discipline

Experience

Senior Data ScienceProven track record of 5+ years in senior data science roles, preferably in fraud or risk analytics
Machine Learning ExperienceDemonstrated experience in developing production-ready machine learning models
