The role

Summary

Wealthsimple is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a high-performing R&D Platform Team in Toronto, driving strategic engineering initiatives across mobile and web platforms. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to enable innovative financial technology solutions while managing and developing a team of 4-8 engineers.

What you'll do

Strategic Engineering Leadership: Collaborate with Product counterparts to develop and execute a comprehensive team roadmap, aligning engineering efforts with strategic business objectives.
Infrastructure Development: Lead the definition, implementation, and maintenance of Leverage infrastructure using Java and Kotlin, ensuring robust and scalable platform solutions.
Team Management: Directly manage 4-8 developers, identifying career development opportunities and fostering a high-performance team culture.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure seamless collaboration between Design, Product, Engineering, and other organizational functions to achieve shared goals and deliver exceptional products.
Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain a high-quality bar for developers across platforms, deeply understanding client experiences and driving continuous improvement.
Product Innovation: Work closely with stakeholders to develop new products serving margin, futures, and options clients, driving technological innovation in financial services.

What we look for

Technical

Backend InfrastructureProven experience building low-latency, high-availability backend systems
Technology ProficiencyStrong knowledge of Java/Kotlin, GraphQL with Apollo, Kafka, and Kubernetes

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Experience

Team LeadershipMinimum 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams of 4+ engineers
Fintech ExperienceDemonstrated experience in high-growth fintech or consumer financial technology environments

Skills

Required skills

LeadershipStrong ability to provide clear technical direction and manage high-performing engineering teams
Strategic PlanningExpertise in developing and executing engineering roadmaps aligned with business goals

Nice to have
