The role

Summary

Ashby is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager in Canada to lead and scale their engineering team, focusing on building high-performing teams with minimal process and maximum engineer autonomy. The ideal candidate will be a former strong engineer who can manage 3-5 engineers, drive team initiatives, and help maintain Ashby's unique engineering culture of ownership, collaboration, and innovation.

What you'll do

Team Leadership: Manage 3-5 existing engineers and hire 3-5 more across multiple specializations including Product, Site Reliability, and Design Engineers
Technical Coaching: Provide strategic feedback on product and technical specs, coach individual contributors to make better technical decisions, and help engineers take on large, loosely defined projects
Hands-on Technical Involvement: Maintain technical skills by debugging systems, shipping bug fixes, and improving developer experience while staying off critical path
Strategic Initiatives: Propose and lead department-wide and company-wide initiatives such as improving pull request reviews, interview design, and internal tooling
