The role

Summary

Ashby is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join their EMEA Engineering team, focusing on building and scaling robust infrastructure for their talent acquisition software platform. The ideal candidate will be a versatile, problem-solving engineer who can develop scalable infrastructure, optimize system performance, and contribute to the company's innovative approach to engineering with minimal oversight and maximum impact.

What you'll do

Infrastructure Optimization: Optimize and scale existing infrastructure, developing systems that can handle rapid growth and complex data processing for Ashby's talent acquisition platform
Security and Reliability Engineering: Create automated guardrails for customer data security, implement SLOs and SLIs, and ensure robust system reliability
Platform Development: Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code, develop tools to support developer productivity, and implement event-driven architecture
Performance Optimization: Enhance system performance through database optimization, compiler improvements, and implementing advanced deployment strategies like canary releases and feature flags
Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with product and engineering teams to define and implement infrastructure solutions, provide technical guidance, and contribute to overall system architecture

Infrastructure as CodeStrong experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management
Cloud InfrastructureExtensive knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure, particularly AWS
Monitoring and ObservabilityProficiency with monitoring tools like Datadog and Sentry

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

Experience

Scaling ExperienceProven track record of building infrastructure for high-growth companies, handling millions of data points
Platform EngineeringDemonstrated experience in platform engineering or site reliability engineering at a mid to late-stage startup

SQLStrong SQL skills for data modeling and performance optimization
Infrastructure AutomationAbility to automate provisioning, monitoring, and release processes
