The role

Summary

Ashby is seeking a Junior Design Engineer who can seamlessly blend design and engineering skills to create innovative user experiences for their talent acquisition platform. The ideal candidate will have strong visual design capabilities and technical proficiency, capable of implementing complex UI solutions while continuously improving the company's design system.

What you'll do

Design System Development: Contribute to and enhance the company's design system by creating flexible, composable components that enable consistent and beautiful UI across the product
User Interface Implementation: Design and implement user interfaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and technically robust, focusing on creating intuitive and powerful user experiences
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product engineers, designers, and other team members to improve product design, user workflows, and overall product usability
Feature Development: Take ownership of design and technical implementation for product features, from wireframing and prototyping to final coded implementation
User Feedback Integration: Rapidly iterate on designs based on user feedback, focusing on shipping improvements quickly and continuously refining the product

TypeScriptStrong proficiency in TypeScript for frontend and potentially backend development
ReactSolid experience with React for building interactive and responsive user interfaces
CSSAdvanced CSS skills for creating sophisticated and responsive design implementations

Education

Design or Engineering DegreeBachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field preferred

Experience

Design and Coding ProjectsPortfolio demonstrating projects with at least a couple of users, showcasing visual design taste and technical implementation skills
Experience ThresholdNo more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer

    Design Take-Home Challenge — Approximately 4-hour asynchronous design challenge followed by a 30-minute live discussion of approach and reasoning

    Final Interview Rounds — Three comprehensive interviews including a deep dive into past design projects, a design system discussion, and a pair-programming session
