Summary

Ashby is seeking a Junior Design Engineer for their remote Canadian team, focusing on a unique role that combines exceptional design and engineering skills. The ideal candidate will create user-centric product experiences, work on high-impact projects touching over 100,000 weekly active users, and contribute to the company's innovative talent acquisition software platform.

What you'll do

Design System Development: Enhance and expand the company's in-house design system, creating flexible and composable components
Product Implementation: Design and code features that impact over 100,000 weekly active users, balancing aesthetic and technical considerations
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product and engineering teams to improve user experiences and product functionality
User-Centric Design: Conduct user research, create wireframes, and implement design solutions that solve real customer problems

What we look for

Technical

TypeScriptProficiency in TypeScript is expected for frontend and potentially backend development
ReactStrong skills in React for building user interfaces and interactive components
CSSExcellent CSS skills for implementing design systems and responsive interfaces

Education

Design or Engineering BackgroundRelevant educational background in design, computer science, or related field preferred

Experience

Professional ExperienceNo more than 2 years of industry experience as a designer or engineer
Project PortfolioDemonstrated projects with at least a few users showcasing visual design skills and technical implementation

    Design Take-Home Challenge — Approximately 4-hour asynchronous design challenge followed by a 30-minute live discussion

    Final Interview Stage — Three comprehensive interviews including a deep dive into past projects, design system exploration, and pair programming (total 2 hours 45 minutes)
